What does it mean to be happy?

I read an article in Health magazine this AM on this topic.  According to a survey the magazine conducted “people in their 20’s associated being happy with being excited about something.  People in their 40’s associated being happy with being relaxed.”  I associate being happy with being at peace.  If I am relaxed, then I am happy.  If I feel like everything is clicking and everything is in place, than i am happy.  I am happy that  I will have a “classroom” this year.  I discovered last year that I need a space to call my own.  A space that has windows and allows natural light in:)  I need a space that I can go to throughout the day and reflect on what I am doing to be sure I am doing the right things for the kids.  When things get stressful I need a space that I can go to and destress.  This year I am going to try  to make the most out of every day, and try to find happiness every day.

How do you define being happy? What are some things that make you happy?

Emma gets trapped in the garden.  Last year we had a hard time keeping the pups out.  This year it took them a month longer to figure out how to get in there:)

Crabs for dinner, but not before the pups can have their way with them:)

Found this quote on Twitter today that I thought was very appropriate for the upcoming events in my life and I wanted to share.  Hopefully this will help bring some perspective to something you might be considering.

“People too weak to follow their own dreams will always find a way to discourage yours.”-From Be Healthy

I have faced some negative energy about the things I plan to do in the near future.  Mostly from my parents and rightfully so they payed for my undergrad and are still paying my loans no doubt.  To them they see me as throwing away my education.  They are both not happy about the jobs they go to every day so I am sure the idea of branching off and taking a chance on something new is quite foreign.  However, I am not going to waste my life being negative about a situation that I could potentially change.  There are far too many people who sit around and complain about something and are not willing to take any chances to try to change their situation.

What do you think?  Are you willing to take a chance at happiness?  Are you content to be “comfortable?”

A new series August 11, 2013

Taking time to reflect on this past school year has lead me to many conclusions.  One of which writing really does help me put things into perspective.  I am not a negative person.  My job makes me a negative person.  Something must change.  I am working on it.  I have to be patient.  What I can control in the mean time is something I have been meaning to start and that is daily posts with a theme.

I am starting this school year trying to be more positive than I was last year.  I was totally stoked about a new position last school year and there quickly became many factors that were beyond my control that made it less than pleasurable.  My job this year is 1/2 what it was last year due to someone new being hired.  Hopefully this will help but I have a feeling that some things still need to change.  I only hope that I am listened to.  I hope that someone understands where I am coming from and changes are made.

I have landed a pretty sweet part time job which I am very excited about.  I am hoping this will lead to many new opportunities and only time will tell.  Again just gotta be patient.  In the meantime sit back with a cup of tea and join me for Thankful Sundays.  This will be a time to mentally prepare for the week and hopefully bring peace to anyone who reads it.

“Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss you’ll end up with the stars.”-Wes Brown.  This has been one of my favorite quotes since high school.  It reminds me of my friend Lynette who was in my English class when I first heard it.  She is a very successful lawyer and has never fallen short of any goal she wanted to reach.  This quote is very appropriate for a few different reasons at this point in my life.  I am trying to make some major changes and I have shot for the moon.  If I miss I will still have some pretty amazing things to be proud of and more reasons to be happy.  I am trying to remind myself to be patient as I wait for some answers before I can move forward.  In the mean time I am shooting for the moon.

What is one thing you are shooting for this week?  Anyone out there thinking of starting a new career?  What’s stopping you?  Are you truly happy with what you are doing now?
